Reaching the lost in Ghana

OPERATIONAL REPORT OCTOBER, 2024

1.     CLASSROOM WORK

We give thanks to the Almighty God for His grace and continual blessings upon us. We have come to the successful end of another month by His mercies.

Studies continued for the courses we started last month. Students were given various topics to prepare on and present in class. This is the last term for most of them and we want to make sure that they are really ready to go out there to preach and defend the truth. The world religions instructor gave them an assignment on how to convert a Muslim to Christ. In Christian ethics, each student was given two ethical topics to research on, prepare an outline and was given 30 minutes each to present to the entire class. After the presentation, questions are asked to the speaker. The instructor for the book of revelation also gave a series of assignments on various topics in the book to them. Overall it has been a really intensive month for the students and we are convinced that they are ready for the work ahead of them.

The part-time class also continued successfully in the just ended month. Currently, they are studying only two courses. These courses are Christian Ethics and the epistles of Peter which are taught by Douglas Armah and Samuel Owusu – Afari respectively.

With the Christian Ethics, the students each presented a 20-minute lesson on “whether all men are amenable to God’s moral laws” in the last meeting of the month.

 2.     PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

The good news about the Savior was sent out to the world in the month. Current and past students are actively involved in the spreading of the gospel. Some of our current students go out on weekends to propagate the message of the cross to nearby towns. Our alumni on the field are also actively defending the faith against error within and without the brotherhood.

The television evangelism by the school also continued in the month.

Evangelistic Efforts by Students in Takoradi, Ghana

OPERATIONAL REPORT APRIL 2024

1. CLASSROOM WORK

Regular students wrote their end of term examination in the first week of April. On the academic calendar, the next two weeks after the examination were for two short courses. A week each for the two. These short courses were Pastoral epistle (I & II Timothy and Titus) and I & II Thessalonians.

We had to postpone these courses to the first and second weeks of the new academic term because the church of Christ at Effikuma invited the school for a week-long evangelism. This invitation coincided with the first week of the short course and we could not decline the invitation because of the congregation’s relationship with the school over the years.

Furthermore, the students complained of fatigue after the evangelism at Beposo, so the faculty thought it wise to give them an early recess after the Effikuma evangelism.

The students therefore vacated for the first term of their second year on the 12th day of April, 2024 and are expected to be back on the 6th day of May, 2024, for the short courses.

Academic work for part-time students continued in the month of April. They are still studying three courses. These courses are world religions, denominational doctrines, and epistles of John and Jude.

On the 19th and 20th days of the month, there were no classes because the school was invited to a graduation ceremony in Accra by the Bear Valley extension school there. The part-time students together with the instructors travelled to Accra to represent West Coast School of Preaching.

2. PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

As indicated earlier, the regular students were invited by the Lord’s church at Efia-kuma to help spread the gospel. This invitation was gladly accepted and our current students as well as some of our old students joined forces to make this program successful. At the end of the five days’ evangelism, the church at Efia-kuma helped plant a new church in a community called Efia.

There were other evangelistic efforts by our students; past and current, to propagate the seed of the kingdom. One of our last graduating students organized a week-long campaign for Christ where he invited several of our old students. By the end of the week, many got to hear about the Lord, His grace, and His Kingdom. God blessed their efforts with some baptisms.

Also, two members of the school (an instructor and a student) were invited for an evangelism outreach in some communities which led to the planting of a new congregation of the Lord’s church. In short, we had fourteen (14) baptisms in the month of April.

Thank you.

Joshua

Successful in Takoradi, Ghana

Dear Brethren,

This is our report for the month of March.

OPERATIONAL REPORT MARCH, 2024

1. CLASSROOM WORK

In the first week of the month of March, all the courses were completed for the term. The students are left with short courses. There were no classroom activities for the second week because the school was on field for the campaign for Christ.

The students, the cooks, and the instructors were given the third week to rest after a hectic week on the field spreading the good news of salvation.

The last week of March was a revision week for the students to prepare for the end of term examination.

Short courses postponed: According to our time table, the regular students were to be taken through short courses between April 8 and 19, and then immediately after that break for vacation. But the school received an invitation from the congregation at Efia-Kuma requesting for our students in a 4-day house to house and public evangelism. We therefore decided to postpone the short courses to give way for the evangelism program.

Classes for the part-time students continued to be effective for most part of the month. The only break they had was the Friday and Saturday when we were out for the campaign for Christ. Some of them partook in the evangelism.

Classes resumed for the last two weekends of the month. Three instructors are currently teaching during the weekends. Douglas Armah is teaching the epistles of John and Jude on Fridays, Nathaniel Brobbey is teaching Denominational doctrines on Saturday mornings, and Samuel Owusu-Afari teaches world religions in the afternoon.

2. PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

In the month of March, the school had its campaign for Christ for the term. We have been getting a lot of requests from Churches all over to help them in their evangelism programs. Currently, the school officially goes out on an evangelism trip once a term. There are a lot of individuals and churches who have brought their request to the school. One of such requests came to us from one of our old students. He wanted the school to help him evangelize a town called Beposo, to plant the Lord’s church there, though there are some Christians who move from there to worship at a nearby town. This town is a big commercial town which did not have the Lord’s church. We were very happy to help in such a work, so we made preparations and on the 11th of March, around 12:30 p.m. we left campus to the place.

The town is about 30 – 40 minutes from the school, but because of transportation cost and other conditions, we rented a guest house there to make the work more effective.

The team for the evangelism included the instructors, the cooks, the nine regular students, four part-time students and twenty-two old students.

The campaign for Christ was very successful, as many got to hear the undiluted truth for the first time through personal work and public preaching. Overall, there were seven (7) baptisms, two in the course of the week and the other five visited the church on its first worship day in the town and got baptized after worship. The number of people who met together to worship that Sunday were ninety-three souls, children included.

Seven of the current students stayed behind to worship with the new church before returning to campus.

God blessed the students’ work at Efia-Kuma Church of Christ with two baptisms. But many have had the opportunity to hear the gospel.

Thank you.

2.     PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

A new year is upon us and our good God has given us strength to continue with the work of evangelism. Our current and past students are seriously spreading the good news of salvation. In order to inculcate the spirit and attitude of evangelism into our current students, Mondays are now used for personal evangelisms. The students go out into nearby communities to spread the good news. So far, many people have heard the gospel and God has blessed their effort with a soul.

There was a week-long evangelism organized by the Church at Nsein where Douglas Armah preaches. He invited nineteen (19) old students of the school to help him out. Many people were privileged to hear the undiluted word of God during the public preaching as it was live on a radio station. The Lord has so far added ten (10) souls to His Church.

Old students are still using social media and other avenues to proclaim the gospel.

We had great speakers who presented marvelous topics and lessons. Preachers and church leaders across the country attended the seminar.

 PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

Week in week out, our students are involved in evangelism. To engage our students during the vacation, we joined them with our just graduated batch to embark on a week evangelism to strengthen a local congregation a week before their graduation. The congregation is being handled by one of the just graduated students. There are several personal and public evangelism efforts throughout the country. As always, God continues to bless our efforts with some converts. All the preaching was done by the students and the graduands.

Evangelism campaign results in 39 baptisms in Takoradi

1.     CLASSROOM WORK

The first term of the second year has ended successfully. The term began on 17th January 2022 and ended on 29th April, 2022 for the full-time students. Studies are still ongoing for the part-time students. The full-time students will be on vacation for a month. They will return to school on 30th May, 2022.  On the day of vacation, the whole school met together, had a prayer session and reflected on the term which was led by the Principal.

2.     PERSONAL EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

Preaching the gospel to the lost and winning souls for the Lord is very important to us. We are always joyed to share the gospel with others and teach them about the Lord and His church. In the month of April, the work of the Lord continued for both present and past students of the school. And the Lord blessed our work so much that thirty-nine (39) souls were baptized into Christ.

3.     WEST COAST MOTIVATIONAL LECTURESHIP

In the month of April, the Principal organized a 1-day youth motivational lectureship. He began this program in the year 2019, which was attended by about 250 brethren from congregations in and around the city of Takoradi. But due to the Covid-19, it was not continued until April this year. It was very successful this year too. Many brethren attended, others watched it live on Facebook, while some others also listened to the presentation on live radio broadcast.

The Principal’s main objective for such a program was twofold: (1) to help empower brethren in the Lord’s church to be innovative and creative in order to develop entrepreneurial skills, and (2) to use that platform to draw brethren’s attention to the West Coast School of Preaching, especially for its enrollment purposes.

And this program was funded by the Principal himself, and two other brethren (one from Fijai COC—Bro. Emmanuel Justice Ofori and another from Mpintsin COC—Bro. Alexander Otabil) who joined him in organizing the program.

Thank you.

Joshua.

Evangelism in Takoradi

OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR MARCH, 2021

 1.      CLASSROOM WORK

There were successful classroom activities for both the full-time and the part-time students. In our last report, we had seven (7) full-time students and eleven (11) part-time students. God has blessed us with one (1) additional student to our full-time program, making it eight (8).

2.      EVANGELISM

West Coast School of Preaching is noted for her evangelistic fervor, and as such, the greater number of our products are so much involved with evangelism activities wherever they are. In almost all the regions of Ghana, we have our students there who are involved with preaching the Gospel on radio, and with other methods of evangelism. For instance, in Takoradi here alone, we have eight (8) of West Coast products who preach on radio every week.

In the month of March, various activities of evangelism were carried out by some of our students both current and past, and there were some good results. In some of the photos, a congregation where one of our past students is preaching, the whole congregation is going on house to house, sharing tracts and teaching people the gospel.

3.      BAPTISM

As a result of the campaigns, house to house, and radio preaching, congregations were strengthened and perishing souls were saved (about 8).

Thank you.

Yours for the Master.

More souls won in Takoradi

OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR JANUARY, 2021

1. CLASSROOM WORK

School resumed from Christmas break on the 11th of January, 2021. Due to the good turnout of our interview on October 14, 2020, for prospective students, we were expecting about twelve (12) regular students and seven (7) part-time students, but things did not go as we anticipated. Therefore, we started the new academic year with seven (7) regular students and eleven (11) part-time students. Some are still pending which we are looking forward to. However, others are also declining the opportunity due to some financial constraints in their families. That is, they may be the bread winners of their families and so, things might be hard when they are away from home. In all these, we are not discouraged at all and we are seriously working hard to figure out a more effective way of getting more students for the school. Whatever method we want to adopt, will be communicated with you for your approval.

2. EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

There was personal evangelism among some of the school’s products who are busily on the field working for Christ. There were about ten (10) baptisms won for Christ. Again, instructor Douglas Armah was given the opportunity to take up brother Joshua Aidoo’s weekly radio broadcast in the month of January.

3. SPECIAL ONE-TIME DONATION FROM BEAR-VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE

About a couple of months prior to the year 2021, the school received a good news from the Bear-Valley Bible Institute of Denver via Brother Steven Ashcraft about their intention to send a one-time donation to the school. They requested that we present to them some things needing urgent financial attention in order to offer a helping hand. As a result, the following were presented for consideration:

a. Deep freezer.

b. Projector.

c. Signpost.

d. Building repair (ceiling for auditorium).

e. Camera.

We will like to account for this funds in our February report instead of January. In the financial statement report, there is a non-budgeted expenses of seven thousand, six hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 7,600.00). That is for the repair of the auditorium, the purchase of the projector and also the making of the school’s signpost. But since there was still other things to do regarding the funds that was sent by Bear-Valley, we have decided to render a complete account God willing, in the February report.

4. DEATH OF A REGULAR STUDENT

In our December report, we reported concerning one of our regular students who was supposed to complete his studies in the end of 2020, but fell sick and admitted at the Cape Coast Government Hospital, who was then diagnosed of Hepatitis B, Kidney failure and a cancer. On January 15, the school sent the Principal to visit him at the Hospital. And about 15 minutes after the Principal had arrived and prayed for him, he breathed his last. Which means the late brother Simon Anobil died in the presence of the Principal.

5. PREACHER PROFILE:

As part of the school’s monthly reports, we will be featuring one of the preachers who received their training through West Coast School of Preaching, and are busily working effectively in the Lord’s vineyard. A lot of preachers are in many local congregations working for the Lord. We first give the Lord the glory due Him and say God bless you to the leadership and the entire congregation at Howe.

In the month of January, we want to feature Brother Ernest Tachie-Menson.

He was added to the Lord's Church at Effia-Kuma, Takoradi in 1992, and was encouraged by the minister in charge (Bro. Saint William Kofi Dampah and Bro. Mike Kizer from USA, to go to the Bible College. So he got enrolled at West Coast School of Preaching in the year 2000.

While he was in school, the leadership of Effia-Kuma Church engaged him to work with a weak congregation as a "care taker" at Botogyina (Abbot), this is a local establishment in collaboration with the World Bible School (WBS). When he completed School in 2002, he continued to preach in that village congregation.

When the preacher for Effia-Kuma left, he was then called back to work as an acting minister from 2008-2009. He later accepted fulltime ministerial appointment at Elmina Church of Christ in 2010. After working with this congregation for about eighteen months (June 2010-December 2011), he resigned on doctrinal basis.

He then spent some few months with Upper Weija Church of Christ, with putting the leadership in order and preparing one of the young men to go to Bible School. He now works with a congregation which he spearheaded its establishment in February 2012. Today, they have 60 average adults and about 30 children. Thank God they now have two plots of land with Mission House project started on it. They have also completed a temporal place of worship on the land.

At Apewosika, a community around University of Cape Coast, he led this young congregation (Ntranoa Church of Christ) to establish a Church in the locality in 2019 with seasoned invited preachers (West Coast School of Preaching products). He was also part of the team that hosted the Effia-Kuma Church of Christ ANNUAL LEADERS SEMINAR for over decade, now hosted by West Coast School of Preaching.

He is a member of an EVANGELISM team (The Ghana Mission Effort) led by Bro Owen Yandell and the Libbys in the USA, and Bro Ransford Essien (West Coast product) in Ghana. He also preaches the gospel on the radio each Saturday night. Currently, he is pursuing a Degree program with Southern Institute of Biblical Studies (SIBS) in Accra, in affiliation with BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE of DENVER USA.

Yours for the Master’s service.

Intensive study in Takoradi

OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR DECEMBER, 2020

1.      CLASSROOM WORK

Classroom activities got so intensive on the month of December more than we have ever done, for the simple reason that it was the last of the year which was supposed to complete the two-year program of the regular class, and also, to complete the part-timers four-year studies in the school. And since we were forced to take a break due to the pandemic, it was not so easy for us to catch up with time. However, it was necessary that we finish our curriculum to give way for the new students who had come for the interview

Due to this, the faculty decided to spend extra hours each day in order to cover more lessons. This, we first discussed with both the regular and part-time students, which of course was a welcoming idea to them. The part which was a shock to the faculty was that the weekend students decided to put a hold to everything that was engaging them in their respective villages /towns and work places in order to come and stay in the school (as if they were also regular students) for two whole weeks. This gave the instructors the opportunity to teach all day, even sometimes, in the night. We thank God that we were able to complete our curriculum without leaving any course or topic untaught. However, this increased our feeding expenses in the month of December, because at some point, we were feeding about 23 students each day than the number of the normal regular class.

Also, in the first week of the month of December, 2020, we were visited by one of the men who used to teach in the school (Brother Nath Kissi) who currently stays in the States. Actually, he came back to Ghana with his wife (a black American) to perform his late wife’s funeral rites. He requested that he would like to teach the regular students for a week. So I granted him the chance to take them through a study of the New Testament Greek. And I must say, the students were so elated for such an opportunity.

Therefore, on the 31st December, 2020, we brought our studies to an end, and scheduled our graduation on August 2021. The specific date will later be decided and communicated with the leadership of Howe church of Christ. As the students are waiting to be graduated, we have assigned them a thesis on Evangelism which must be presented at the end of June 2021. As it stands now, we are looking forward to graduating eighteen men (eleven part-timers and eight regulars).

2.      EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

A congregation in the Central Region of Ghana had a 5-day campaign for Christ and the Principal of the school was invited to speak. Five (5) souls were won for Christ. Also, there was some personal evangelism among some of our past students which also resulted in two baptisms.

Again, the Principal continued with his Sunday night radio broadcast.

3.      WEDDING:

In the month of December, one of our weekend students got married and therefore invited the faculty and the students. Since we were busy with classes, the Principal who was the officiator of this program, attended to grace the occasion.

Yours for the Master’s service.

Doing well in Takoradi

OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR NOVEMBER, 2020

1.      CLASSROOM WORK

Both the regular and part-time classes went on smoothly. All the instructors attended and taught their respective classes.

2.      BEGINNING OF NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR

God willing, the new students for the next academic year will report on January 11, 2021. About twelve (12) men are expected to enroll as the regular students, while seven (7) have expressed interest in the weekend classes. Meanwhile, not everyone in the current part-time class will be completing their course this December. There are five who joined the program later, and so they too will be joined by the new seven (7) who are coming in January 2021. Which means, if God permits, we are going to have twenty-four (24) students for the next academic year. That is, twelve in the regular and twelve in the part-time.

3.      EVANGELISM AND BAPTISM

In the month of November too, there were house to house evangelism activities that went on by some of the past students in their various congregations, which also yielded good fruits through baptism. About ten (10) souls were baptized.

Also, in almost all the sixteen regions of Ghana, we have west Coast past students preaching on radio every week. In Takoradi for instance, we have about ten (10) of our past students preaching on radio stations.

Yours for the Master’s service.

Full class schedule in Takoradi

Dear Brethren,

Greetings to you our beloved brethren and fellow workers in the Lord’s vineyard. God has been kind to us here as we are trying to stay balanced between His work and covid-19. We pray and hope that He spreads His mighty wings on you as well.

Here is the report for the month of August. By God’s help and your kind contribution, we were able to handle all the affairs of the school. We say thank you, and God bless you. We appreciate you very much.

1.      CLASSROOM WORK

Classes for both the regular and the part-time were carried out successfully until the last of the month (28th) when we gave the regular students a three-week recess. The weekend classes for the part-time session continued without any break.

2.      EVANGELISM

As we all are aware, the covid-19 is still on going, and so we are still under certain restriction regarding activities that involve human contacts. Yet some of us tried to take advantage of the little opportunity we had to spread the Word.

Some few men who are also past students of our school and have formed a team, organized a three-day house to house evangelism. Below is a picture to that effect.

3. BAPTISM

There were two baptisms recorded, one at Mpintsin Church of Christ where I preach, and the other one from one of our past student’s congregation.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours for the Master’s service.
