Jesus promised that storms will blow into our lives, pressuring and testing the foundation upon which we are building our lives.  All who have built on a shoddy, spiritual foundation will see the crumpling effects.  Psalm 11:3 asks, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”  This does not suggest what the Bible elsewhere denies, that the church of our Lord will be destroyed (cf. Dan. 2:44; Heb. 12:28).  It does not suggest that our Lord will ever be less than an immoveable, bedrock foundation (1 Co. 3:11).  It does, however, suggest that individuals and individual congregations can choose to build on a foundation other than Christ.  The current culture and worldly powers are foisting their vain philosophies, fatal alternatives, and dead-end doctrines upon us at every turn and in every way.  These are torrential thunderstorms and fierce floods.  Only a proper foundation can spare us from destruction as we build our lives.
