Shiprock, New Mexico Mission Work

Hello everyone,

I pray that all is well! I hope that you have been able to stay warm and dry but most of all safe!

We did not do a bulletin last week with the holiday my printing dept. was on vacation. Last week was a great one, the congregation, with the help of some donations, put together 4 complete turkey dinners and then gave them to 4 families in need. One of our sisters, Victoria, works at the social services office so we had a little inside help as she delivered the meals along with some great info on the Lord's church and other helpful tracts. We always keep these outreach works in prayer because one day we will be at the right time and place for someone to ask about and need God!

Rose and I are doing great, except I am freezing to death. Summer is on the way so it keeps me going. Every year the cold makes me hurt in new places so I whine a lot but no one listens....hahahah. We did receive an "anonymous" gift of money. It came in an envelope that was very familiar from the Mesa area. You guys know who you are and we are blessed to have your love and support, THANK YOU!!!.As God usually works, we needed the money for some truck expenses and I needed six of my chainsaw chains shortened. We have been cutting and hauling wood this year for others that for many reasons can't do it themselves. It works great for me because cutting wood is such a blessing. Some people go to the spa to relax, I head to the tree's and unwind.

I was going through our evangelism tools last week (Bibles, tracts, DVD's) and we are totally out. During the Shiprock Fair this year we made and handed out 1,200 packets that contained tract's, colored pencils, paper, some had DVD's and they all had the book "The Agony of the Cross" If anyone has extra of any of these items laying around we would love to take them off your hands!!! The church PO Box is 3566 Shiprock, NM 87420.

God Bless and Have an awesome week!!!

"Recharge" is Coming! "Recharge" is Coming!

What is RECHARGE: Excellence in Ministry? RECHARGE! Excellence in Ministry is a conference designed to recharge everyone involved in the work of the church. It is easy to get discouraged and burn-out when working the mission field. It is easy to run out of ideas and enter into perpetual frustration with the work. RECHARGE! Excellence in Ministry is a way for the Lord’s workers to share knowledge, experiences, ideas, and successes.

Digging Deeper: Building on the Foundation of God’s Word

There are two specific focuses of RECHARGE! Excellence in Ministry. There is a textual growth focus and a practical application focus. There are sessions designed to dig deeper into specific books of the Bible. These sessions will reignite a passion for doing good honest Bible study, and encourage preachers and teachers to hone their study skills even more.

The Nuts & Bolts of Ministry: The Practical Side of Working for the Lord

Recharge is characterized by it’s focus on the nuts and bolts of ministry. These practical sessions are designed to explain how others are successfully handling specific situations in their congregations. They will give you ideas and specific steps you can implement into your local work TODAY!

Who is Recharge for?

RECHARGE! Excellence in Ministry is specifically designed for ALL Christians who want to be better workers for Christ. Even more specifically we are focusing in on Christians in California that are ministering the Gospel to the 40,000,000 lost souls in our state. This is not JUST for preachers. RECHARGE is for everyone who is committed to the work of the Lord: preachers, elders, deacons, teachers, and committed Christians. This is a hands-on practical workshop for every Christian that wants to be better equipped to work in the Lord’s Kingdom in the Western United States.

Where is Recharge Going to Take Place?

RECHARGE! Excellence in Ministry is going to take place in beautiful Monterey, California. Monterey is located right on the majestic California coast. It is a great place to relax and recharge! The Monterey Bay is a perfect spot to spend a family vacation and togrow spiritually at the RECHARGE Conference. The Monterey Bay provides countless opportunities for you spend quality time with friends and family.

Sending Off Two Families into New Works

This year’s BVBID Winter Party hosted by our seniors was a great success. Despite the bitter cold temps outside, the Fellowship Hall was filled with warm food, warm fellowship, and warm wishes. It was one of the best attended Winter Parties we have had at Bear Valley and  the senior families did an outstanding job. Many thanks to Chris and Alicia Krotz and Brad and Gretchen Toy for the great work putting on this event.

Throughout the evening there were games and delicious food to eat. During one game, members and staff got a chance to “impersonate” some of the students. It was awesome! Lots of fun and laughs to go around.

The highlight of the evening was the closing prayer by Trow Woollery. He invited the other students and staff to lay hands on the two graduates to send them off on their work for the Lord. It was a powerful example of the bond that has been created in these students during their time together here at Bear Valley. It was great to see how close they have grown to one another and to the Lord and his work while they have been together.

We are excited to send these two families off into their new works. Chris and Alicia will be working in Troy, Ohio and the Brad and Gretchen on on their way to work in Kentucky. We are confident that both works will be blessed by these wonderful families.

The 2012 Homecoming line-up is ready! Are you?

"What's Right With The Church?"

The current age often seems dominated by pessimism.  There is a cynicism and skepticism against our major institutions, celebrities, politicians, professional athletes, and other people of prominence.  As children of God living in such an environment, we can be influenced by such attitudes.  Some have directed their pessimism toward the church.  Extremists from both sides are declaring its doom and demise.  There may be a temptation to critique what's wrong with the church.

Perhaps more than ever, we need to be reminded of the many things that are right with the church.  Though from the "human side" it is filled with sinners saved by grace, it is perfect in design, organization, mission, and message.  This year, the Bear Valley Lectures will devote itself to the theme, "What's Right With The Church?"  Join us as we consider the many things that are right with the Lord's church!

Be reminded.  Be edified.  Be encouraged to keep on keeping on!

Birdwell Lane church provides Thanksgiving meal!

Kenny Garcia (2007 BVBID Grad) and the Birdwell Lane church of Christ in Big Spring, Texas, opened up their doors, kitchen and hearts this past Thanksgiving to the community.

From Kenny regarding the congregations' efforts the Tuesday before Thanksgiving:

"I think it went well overall. We fed about 100 people and right now I am studying wiht a young couple that attended the event that night. I think the best part of the event was how it helped the members. It seemed to me that they felt they were actually making a difference in the lives of those in the world. And even though we had enough food to feed probably between 350-400 they were still in good spirits. They realized that this was our first time doing something like this and we will learn from our first effort and improve upon it next year. Plus everybody who came filled out a sheet of paper so we have their information and I am in the process of following up with those contacts. I also have other ideas that are similar to this one and the members here have already begun to talk about what they would like to do in reaching out to the community. Our next big plan is goinig to be toward handing out gifts to smaller children around Christmas. So every month we are going to have one Sunday called "Gift Sunday" and on this Sunday members will be encouraged to bring at least one gift (does not matter in price and we will probably have an age group targeted) and we will do this every year and come December we will go out into the community and hand them out to less fortunate families. We have a few goals in doing these things. First, which is obvious, to reach souls. Second, I find it that most people in the community simply know the church as a building on the corner when they should know us as Christ followers or they should see Christ in us. By doing these things I believe people will see the love of Christ and God will be glorified."

Shane Belanger family update (Class '11)

Things are going good for the Belanger family. Although still in transition and awaiting our move back into our home in Salisbury, the Lord has kept us very busy in this part of New England (MA.) We have had the privilege to work with the Lawrence church of Christ, which has been very encouraging. It is great to see the Lord's church hard at work. We have also had the opportunity to visit other local churches in the area to encourage them. Ultimately I am looking forward to being planted in a specific area (central NH) where I can roll up my sleeves and dig into the work of the Lord. Recent lessons- From Defeated to Determined, Helping Others Get to Heaven- That I might win some (I Corinthians 9). VBS this week. Also gearing up for many one on one Bible studies (pray for success). Looking forward to the annual lectureship at the Northern Valley church of Christ in NH where Bob Turner and Doug Dingley will be presenting the lessons. The Belangers are still trying to raise support for the work here in New England and any leads would be greatly appreciated. Your brother in Christ, Shane.

Partnership in Preaching

“We need men who will devote their lives to full-time work in the kingdom. Many opportunities exist to spread the Gospel. If men do not rise to the call, the Word will not be given to the world within our lifetimes. Those who deny their call show they have misunderstood the main purpose of being God’s workmanship, that is, to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). There is a crying need for thousands more to spread the Word. There are many churches in the United States that do not have a full-time minister. Simply stated, we need more preachers.” (Warren Wilcox, Man of God: Encouraging Men to Preach)

Many of you know the story of how the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver came to fruition. In 1965, faithful elders of the Bear Valley church of Christ saw the overwhelming need for sound, qualified preachers. Their vision of filling pulpits and congregational classrooms around the world still lives today here in Denver, Colorado. Brother Wilcox’s timeless words are echoed by every elder and staff member in Denver and every Bear Valley Extension School worker, worldwide.

In our quest to strengthen the Lord’s church worldwide and to establish ministers in congregations of the Lord’s people, we need your partnership. We long for and seek your support through your involvement in prayerfully giving within your financial means. There are many needs within the Bear Valley Bible Institute. We’ve made it a lot simpler for you to donate so that your support will quickly benefit that need which is lacking. Our secure online donation page at www.WeTrainPreachers.com/donate/ is easy and self- explanatory. You have the option for a one-time donation or the convenience of making regular monthly donations by the touch of a button.

As we quickly approach our fifth decade of training preachers, we hope you sense and join the momentum produced from the labors of training preachers. Our desire to entrust the Truth of God to faithful men so others may know and believe (2 Timothy 2:2) has never been greater. We pray you will consider your initial or continued partnership of this fine institute as we strive to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

Brotherly! ~Jon Warnes

Bear Valley Student's Spring 2011 Campaigns

This year's student Spring campaigns came in all types of shapes and sizes. We had student/Faculty groups in Custer, South Dakota; Conifer, Craig, Parker, and Aurora Colorado; Tilton, New Hampshire and Guatemala. What an experience for our student body to 'make application' with their course of studies at BVBID. As many of you can remember, student campaigns not only feed and supply a need for the student but they also serve a great need in uplifting the congregations that are taking on the responsibility of bringing the students out.

As time allows, we will post as much information as we can regarding each individual campaign that takes place. The following link is for the blog that the Guatemala Team put together. Congratulations on a successful trip you guys! Jared Kyle, Jordan Wise, Tony Johnson and David Malley did an outstanding job and they are great servants for the Lord.

We hope that you will join us for the launch of the 2011 West Visalia Spiritual Growth Expo.

Our preachers Cliff Sabroe and Eli Schnell are serving as directors of this event. They can be contacted at 559-732-7515 orlectureship@gmail.com.  Cliff’s cell is 559-623-5252

Attention Alumni

The Alumni Relations Department wants their fellow BVBID brethren to know they come first! Our purpose is to serve you and meet your needs as a dedicated member of the BVBID family. With the staff’s combined decades of experience in the areas of pulpit ministry, evangelism, Bible teaching, missions, church plantings, youth leadership, shepherding and a multitude of other congregational works, we believe we are a dependable source of support to lean upon during your labors in the Lord’s church.

The focus here at BVBID has never changed…We Train Preachers! For 45 years we have been dedicated to this cause and see no end in sight. As brethren who have already been trained and working in the fields of souls, we applaud you and want you to know we are here for YOU. Our future efforts have you in mind.

The first area we will be working on is our accuracy. The staff at BVBID has worked hard over the years at trying to keep track of the alumni. The limited amount of manpower at BVBID has kept us from being able to maintain the proper accuracy you deserve. With the leadership’s resolve to improve our Development Department in this capacity, our alumni record keeping is of the utmost importance.

The second area of improvement is in our availability. Our Alumni Relations Department is here full-time for your support. I hope that you will keep us in mind as a first point of contact. We appreciate the time you spent training here and the great efforts you are making for your local congregation. The least we could do is be available as a source of encouragement and reliable information for you.

The final area to advance in is our partnership with you. We cherish the friendship we already have and hope to further develop our relationship as we work together as members of God’s family. It may appear a bit selfish but hearing from you, knowing how you are doing, and how we can help you provides us with great encouragement! The family of God IS the greatest family of all and the entire BVBID staff is dedicated to meet its alumni’s needs and strengthen the bond between us.

1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing”.

In Christ,

Jon Warnes

Director of Alumni Relations
